Material Strength & Computational Bioengineering
MatSCioLab has various research topics based on overall mechanical Engineering theories. From measuring and analyzing material properties of a metal through Nano & Bio application research. In the experimental area, we are using a newly introduced method called ‘small punch creep test’ to evaluate new materials or nano-composites which operates in high temperature and high pressure. We also conduct a FEM based analysis to evaluate fast and accurately. Furthermore, analyzing nano & bio systems using traditional mechanical modeling techniques, we can interpret the mechanism of protein structure and folding. This can be lead to genetic disease treatment, development of new drugs, etc. Recently, we purchased the latest haptic device for developing a virtual operation system by using sense of touch information.
Our lab belongs to Sungkyunkwan Advanced Institute of Nano Technology (SAINT), doing cooperative research with other experts. We also have a BK21 program which gives graduate students scholarships and research opportunities by RA or TA. Furthermore, the ‘World Class University program’ has given us a great opportunity to make a joint research with Professor Wing Kam Liu from Northwestern university.
